History of the Cemetery,

On January 13, 1852, for the sum of $25.00, a 2-acre parcel of land was deeded from Ira and Mary Colby to the County of McHenry for the use of the inhabitants of the Village and Town of McHenry for the purpose of burials.

The Woodland Cemetery Association of McHenry was incorporated on November 28, 1911.  The object to which it was formed was to own, care for and manage a cemetery for a burial place of the dead and to improve and beautify the same and to use and exercise all the rights and privileges authorized by the laws of the State of Illinois - at which time there were seven Directors.

The By-Laws for The Woodland Cemetery Association of McHenry were established June 6, 1938 because it was deemed necessary to organize a Cemetery Association for the care and maintenance of the cemetery that existed in the City of McHenry, known as the Woodland Cemetery.  Ten Directors were selected and the By-Laws were adopted by those people.

On December 10, 1948, t
he Woodland Cemetery Association of McHenry obtained a Cemetery Authority License from the State of Illinois indicating that the Association had complied with all the requirements of an act to regulate the care funds of cemeteries and of lots, graves, crypts, niches, private mausoleums, memorials, markers, or monuments in cemeteries.

On October 15, 1969, for the sum of $10.00, another parcel of land was deeded from Rose & Jacob Freund to the Woodland Cemetery Association of McHenry.

The Woodland Cemetery Association was established to maintain the Woodland Cemetery for future generations, to keep proper records of purchases and burials, to account for all  monies of the Perpetual Fund and General Fund, and to keep all records that are necessary to report to the State of Illinois.
